The Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Duhok participated in MEDICO 2026, held from 11–14 August 2026 at the Erbil International Fairground, through MedStars, the dedicated section for young innovators and healthcare-related projects.
MEDICO, organized by North Vision under the supervision of the Ministry of Health of the Kurdistan Regional Government, is one of the largest international healthcare exhibitions in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The event brought together healthcare professionals, companies, innovators, and industry leaders from more than 10 countries.
As part of MedStars, which featured only 20 selected projects, students from the Biomedical Engineering Department showcased innovative projects demonstrating the department’s focus on practical applications of biomedical engineering and assistive healthcare technologies.
The department presented the following projects:
▪️Sign Language Translator Glove, presented by Abdulqader Masood Abdulkareem and Zaid Mahdi Ahmed, under the supervision of Dr. Soleen Jaladet Mohammed Saleh.
▪️Mind-Controlled Motor System, presented by Ali Azhar Dewali and Mansoor Azad Ibrahim, under the supervision of Dr. Soleen Jaladet Mohammed Saleh.
▪️Al-Bases Vein Segmentation Device Using NIR, presented by Saaud Hani and Mustafa Masoud, under the supervision of Dr. Fars Esmat Samann.
The department’s participation highlights its commitment to student-led innovation, practical biomedical engineering education, and the development of technologies addressing real-world healthcare needs. The event also provided an important opportunity for students and faculty to engage with healthcare professionals, industry representatives, and innovators from across the region and beyond.
