About
Established in 2015 within the College of Engineering at the University of Duhok, the Department of Mechanical Engineering offers one of the most progressive engineering curricula in the region. Since celebrating its first graduating class of mechanical engineers in 2019, the department has continued to expand its academic impact, now offering both undergraduate (B.Sc.) and postgraduate degree programs.
Academic Programs & Curriculum
Our curriculum follows a semester-based, modular structure aligned with the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) and the Bologna Process.
- Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Mechanical Engineering: A 4-year program covering a general specialization in mechanical engineering. The interdisciplinary coursework develops core knowledge across mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, materials science, vibrations, control systems, and computer-aided design (CAD).
- Postgraduate Programs: Advanced postgraduate studies providing specialized academic training and research opportunities in core mechanical engineering disciplines.
Focus on Innovation & Sustainability
The department’s interdisciplinary approach bridges theoretical fundamentals with practical industry needs. With a emphasis on sustainability, product design, and project management, our programs prepare graduates to address critical regional and global challenges in energy systems, industrial manufacturing, transportation, and healthcare infrastructure.
Hands-on Experience & Facilities
Students gain practical knowledge through integrated laboratory sessions, engineering design projects, capstone research, and a compulsory final-year industrial internship. Our facilities feature dedicated lecture spaces, computing laboratories for programming and simulation, and specialized heat transfer and fluid dynamics labs.
Vision
We envisage a department that offer the best programs in all aspects in Mechanical Engineering, this will be done through excellence in teaching, research, and service the region that is continuously expanding, also to become a center of advanced research in modern technology.
Mission
The mission of Mechanical Engineering department is to address the most persuasive needs of human society in the region, with a specific emphasis on the fields of energy, transportation and health where the college members in the department work as a group that reflects the focus of management and its methodologies.
